Exploring Energy Vortexes: Sedona, AZ.
Updated: Jan 13, 2020
People say that there is something literally in the soil of Sedona, Arizona, that will change you on a spiritual level. It’s something that can’t just be put into simple terms to describe how it’s felt, as you really have to be there to experience the vibes that people are talking about. Some refer to this phenomenon as minerals from the Ocean that once was this space, and others say that on an energy level it comes down to negative ions we are feeling. Sedona is in the South West USA, so some even say that this energy comes down to extraterrestrial doings.
Fun fact: Over 4 million people a year come to Sedona to experience it’s healing energy.
Personally, I don’t know what it is, but this place has changed me forever. I spent four days in this captivating red rock wonder, and it wasn’t nearly enough time to fully experience it. I’m inexplicably drawn to this place, and I know it will have a prominent appearance in my future, whatever that may end up being.
The energy in Sedona is so healing, so spiritual, on a metaphysical level. This place has been coined a pinpoint spot of enlightenment. These experiences can be extremely transformational for people and it makes sense why there are so many healing centers focused on energy clearing, aura cleansing, and crystal work. [Plus I saw some of the BIGGEST crystals I’ve ever seen in my life here, taller than me and more expensive than my car!]

Have you heard about these?!?
All of Sedona itself is said to be vortex, but there are 4 main energy locations where there is more intensity. This energy can interact with anyone near that area and will resonate and strengthen you on a spiritual level. The energy can be felt within half a mile of each location. People come from ALL over the World to check out the Sedona vortexes, and there are informational STORES (and tour companies) about them around every block. Sedona is literally known as a spiritual power location because of all of the subtle vortex energy in the area.
What is a vortex? A vortex is basically a funnel shape that is created by some sort of whirling effect, either fluid or energy. Common examples would be whirlwinds, water going down the drain and tornados. Essentially, a vortex is made up of anything that flows. The vortexes in Sedona are coming directly out of the surface of the Earth, and the energy literally leaves behind measurable magnetism in the places it is said to be the strongest. Vortexes are the intersections of natural electromagnetic Earth energy, and this is also known as ley lines.
Ley lines intersect with each other in different ways and this creates different kinds of energies for us to feel. There are 3 types of energy created by the intersection of ley lines:
Masculine (electrical), known as the yang
Feminine (magnetic), known as the yin
Balanced (mix of electrical and magnetic)
Vortex energy can be thought of just like the energy that is already inside of you. If you are a sensitive person, much like myself, you may be more susceptible to feel this energy than others. The energy can be felt as a positive and uplifting experience, for may days after. [Hence why I was on cloud 9 after returning home from here and was caught in a strong daydream about my experiences.]
Finding that Sedona Energy
There are plenty of places on the internet, or right in Sedona, that you can get your hands on a map of the energy vortexes. There are 4 main locations to reference, that can easily be remembered by their geographical formation.
Red Rock Crossing / Cathedral Rock Vortex
Boynton Canyon Vortex
Bell Rock Vortex
Before going into further detail about each one, let’s explore another associated concept: juniper trees. These trees respond to the vortex energy in Sedona in a physical way that can be a dead giveaway for areas where the energy is the strongest. The more of an axial twist that you see in the trees with their branches, the stronger the energy is in that location. The lines on the branch will grow in a helical spiral and sometimes this effect can even bend the branch itself.
This location is about more than just the energy, as it’s also a great vantage point location to see views of most of Sedona. I personally didn’t make it to this location, but it’s still on my list! The energy at this vortex is said to strengthen the masculine side.
Masculine energy can be described on a scale where strength is on the high end and weakness is on the low end. When people have a strong sense of masculine energy they are going to be more self confident and take the initiative to take charge of their lives. This energy helps you stand up for yourself and not let others take advantage of you. It helps you feel confident in taking risks and being decisive when you need to be. So as you can understand, if you have a weak masculine energy, you will often doubt your own capabilities and struggle with intimidation from life experiences.
Red Rock Crossing / Cathedral Rock Vortex
This is the vortex I would have been the closest to in my recent visit to Sedona, and it was the one we visited on the very last morning. This place left a spiritual taste in my being that I couldn’t explain for days upon returning home.
The easiest way to access this vortex is driving on the paved road, west of highway 89A and turning on Upper Red Rock Loop road. Once you get to the Crescent Moon Park you can walk down to the creek (something I wish we would have done but we were on a time crunch and I didn’t fully research it prior). Walking East toward Cathedral Rock, and along the creek, it is said you will start to literally FEEL the energy getting stronger around you. The energy at this vortex is going to tune into the feminine side.
Feminine energy is viewed on a scale of goodness on the high end, and evil on the low end. This energy will strengthen your ability to defend your own rights and allow you to experience those rights. It will also tap into your already innate feminine energy inside your soul, such as your kindness, patience, compassion, and caring nature for others.
Cathedral Rock is known as the “womb-with-a-view”, and is a very well known place to feel the magnetic feminine energy. It is also one of the most photographed and iconic formations in all of Sedona. The energy here makes it a great place for meditation, contemplation, and other inward activities such as self reflection.
You can also get to this vortex from the Village of Oak Creek, and if you enjoy hiking there is another route as well. I really wish I would have had more time allowed to me to explore this place, as even on the hike UP Cathedral Rock, I could feel there was something there that I just couldn’t explain. This location really touched me in a lot of ways!
Boynton Canyon Vortex
Like I mentioned in my previous Sedona blog post, we really weren’t sure how far we were going to end up hiking through Boyton Canyon. We were pretty much just going with the flow for whatever happens (which is also why I got ridiculously sunburned on my shoulders). We hadn’t anticipated we would actually hike the entire canyon trail. Now, if we had more time or had a day to plan this space out, I would have definitely taken the short off trail that leads to the Boynton Canyon Vortex.
This trailhead is located near the Enchantment Resort, and the vortex trail is accessible by the sign you will see stating “Vista Trail”. The energy at this vortex is going to be the strongest right at the 30 foot high knoll on the trail. In this area you will notice a lot of juniper trees with the spirling effect. This vortex has energy that strengthens both the masculine and feminine side or the yin/yang balance effect.
This balance energy is extremely important for personal growth in us. This is as simple as treating other people the way you want to be treated, even if you aren’t as spiritually evolved as someone else. A good way to indicate feeling this balance, and knowing if there is too much masculine or feminine inside you, is to pay attention to your own emotions. If you start to feel anger more easily than you feel fear, then you likely have too much masculine energy and this energy is too strong. If you feel fear more easily than anger then the opposite is true, and you have too much feminine energy. When the balance between these energies is centered it will help you strengthen your own personal relationships and help in all areas of intimacy, commitment, honesty and openness.
The vibes here makes it a great place to gain clarity and experience a higher vision for your entire life.
Bell Rock Vortex
We drove by Bell Rock right when we entered Sedona on day one. I was able to stop at a trailhead parking lot and scenic view turnoff spot to capture a few pictures, but I’m incredibly saddened to report I was not able to make the hike up Bell Rock in the few days I was in Sedona. This is huge on my list and will need to be one of the first experiences to take place the next time I visit!
Bell Rock is one of the most iconic formations in Sedona, and you absolutely know it when you see it. It has a very distinct shape making it very easy to spot, and luckily the place to park and adventure onto the trails is very clearly marked. The best part is, you can start to feel how strong the energy is here right when you get out of your car in the parking lot. It makes me feel better to know that you don’t even have to climb anywhere to start to feel the energy at this vortex. Another key indicator of how strong the energy is here is all of the twisted juniper trees all over the trail.
The energy at Bell Rock is going to be powerful in all three parts we have described from the other locations: the masculine energy, feminine energy, AND the balance between them both. This makes it a great place to do a vigorous yoga flow or set prayer and intention into the universe.
